The Relationship between MBTI Personality Types and the Discipline score, Academic Achievement of Cadet Nurses

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify the MBTI personality types and relationship between MBTI personality types and discipline score, academic achievement of cadet nurses. The data were collected from 184 cadets enrolled in the Armed Forces Nursing Academy and MBTI was used to identify cadets¡¯ personality type. The collected data were analyzed
by using the SPSS Window 10.0 program.
The major results of this study were as follows:
1. There were slightly more introvert(I) type type(53.8%) cadets more extrovert(E) : more sensing(S) type(70.1%) than the intuitive(N) type : more thinking (T) type(57.1%) than the feeling(F) type : more judging(J) type than the perceiving(P) type. ST(44.6%) was most common in psychological functions and SJ(46.2%) in temperaments. Among MBTI 16 personality types, ISTJ(20.1%) was most common, and five types of ISTJ, ESTJ, ESFJ, ISTP, ISFJ were 53.8% in all.
2. The extrovert type cadets had significantly higher in theme representation of discipline score than those of the introvert type(t=4.006, p=.000) and sensing type cadets had significantly higher in cadet discipline test of the discipline score than the intuitive type(t=2.543, p=.012).
3. The extrovert type cadets had significantly higher in academic achievement than those of the introvert type(t=2.177, p=.018).
4. There was no statistically significant relationship between discipline score, academic achievement of cadet nurses and MBTI 4 psychological functions, 4 temperaments. but, it showed that the intuition thinking(NT) and sensing judging(SJ) type were higher in the discipline score, academic achievement than other types.
5. There was statistically significant relationship between the discipline score and academic achievement of cadet nurses(r=.181, p<.05).
